Knowledge of dental surgeons about the maximum dose of local anesthetics in Teresina – PI

Objective: To evaluate the level of knowledge of Teresina- PI dentist surgeons about the maximum dose of local anesthetics in dentistry and which ones they use most. Methods: A survey was conducted with approach qualitative – quantitative type descriptive, exploratory and cross- sectional survey of data on the level of knowledge of DCs on the use of local anesthetics. The only data collection instrument used was a questionnaire including 10 questions with 362 surgeons, containing from 1 to 5 years of graduation, from 6 to 10 years of graduation, and more than 10 years of graduation. Results: The knowledge on the maximum dose of anesthetic solution was inadequate, and high error rate for all asked anesthetics, and lidocaine anesthetic for greater use, using technical the infiltrative as preferably. Conclusion: Regardless of the time since graduation, the Dental Surgeon does not have full knowledge of the main anesthetic solutions used on a daily basis.
