Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength and Adhesive Remnant Index (ARI) of ceramic brackets bonded with three resins, two conventional and one fluorescent. For this purpose, 45 bovine incisors were randomly divided into three groups (n=15): Group 1: Transbond XT resin; Group 2: Orthocem; Group 3: Orthocem UV. The shear bond strength test was performed using an AME-2kN universal testing machine, with a speed of 0.5 mm/min and a 50N load cell. The results showed that groups 2 and 3 presented lower shear bond strength than group 1, but they did not differ statistically from each other. Regarding the ARI, there was no significant difference between the groups. Therefore, all resins showed bond strength compatible for clinical use and the addition of fluorescent components did not influence shear strength, and may be a viable alternative for more conservative removal of adhesive residue.
