The importance of diagnosing a baby with ankyloglossia:
case report

Objective: To report the case of a baby with ankyloglossia who received surgical treatment and the importance of diagnosis. Methods: The study consists of a report of a two-month-old female patient accompanied by her parents who attended the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic of the Piauí Dental Surgeons Association (ABCD-PI), referred by the maternity hospital where she was born and the baby's tongue test was performed, which resulted in the need for frenulum surgery. The report was written with the permission of the child's guardians through a Free and Informed Consent Form read and signed. Results: After examining the child and applying the tongue test again, the need for intervention in the lingual frenulum was observed according to the test result. Conclusion: The diagnosis through the protocol is of fundamental importance, indicating the need for early intervention, and that frenotomy contributed positively to the child's quality of life.
