Abstract

Objective: To conduct an integrative literature review in order to understand the influence of gestational diabetes mellitus on the development of children with autismo spectrum disorder. Methodology: This study is an integrative literature review conducted using studies published between 2020 and 2025, in Portuguese, English, and Chinese. An online search was performed using PubMed and BVS as data collection sources. Results: The analysis of the articles revealed that mothers who develop gestational diabetes are more likely to have children with autism. Final considerations: In light of this, it is necessary to implement rigorous campaigns regarding the risk of developing diabetes during pregnancy, considering the risk of maternal complications and the birth of children with autism.
