Evaluation of the impact of breastfeeding on the development of allergic diseases in children in the vale do aço region:
a cohort study

Objective: to evaluate the impact of breastfeeding on the development of allergic diseases in children aged 0 to 10 years treated at the Usifamilia Primary Health Care Center between 2015 and 2024. Method: descriptive observational study of the retrospective cohort type, using data from the electronic medical record (Tasy), focusing on asthma, atopic dermatitis and allergy to cow's milk protein. The exposure factor was exclusive breastfeeding for a period of 6 months. Measures of central tendency, dispersion and frequencies were analyzed, with hypothesis tests considering p < 0.05. Results: indicate that 54.3% of children were exclusively breastfed until six months, but no association was found between the type of milk and the risk of allergic diseases. Conclusion: exclusive breastfeeding was more prevalent than in other studies, but without a protective effect against allergies, highlighting the need for further research in different regional contexts.
