Abstract

Objective: To investigate the current scenario of syphilis in Brazil, focusing on its oral manifestations. Methods: A search was conducted in the PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, Scopus, and Embase databases, including articles published in the last five years. Observational studies carried out in Brazil that addressed oral manifestations of syphilis were selected. Results: Fourteen articles were included, most of which were case reports (n=9), followed by retrospective (n=4) and cross-sectional studies (n=1). The most frequent oral manifestations occurred on the tongue (n=10) and lips (n=7), predominantly in the secondary stage. Most patients were men, aged between 20 and 62 years. Risk factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, drug use, and HIV coinfection were reported. Conclusion: Syphilis has reemerged in Brazil, and its oral manifestations may represent early signs, highlighting the role of dentists in early diagnosis. The increase in cases reinforces the urgency of public health policies focused on prevention, screening, and timely treatment.
