Abstract

Objective: To analyze the scientific evidence regarding the influence of stress on periodontal therapeutic outcomes. Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted using the PubMed and BVS databases. Studies published in Portuguese, Spanish, and English between 2015 and 2025 were included, comprising longitudinal, cross-sectional, retrospective, and clinical studies. Exclusion criteria were: articles published before 2015, studies that did not address the influence of psychological or oxidative stress on periodontal treatment outcomes, expert opinions, monographs, dissertations, theses, and articles without accessible full text. A total of nine studies met the eligibility criteria. Results: The selected studies showed an association between psychological stress and periodontal therapy outcomes, as well as a link between periodontal disease and increased oxidative stress at the cellular level. Conclusion: There is a positive correlation between psychological and oxidative stress in individuals with periodontal disease, and these stress factors negatively influence periodontal treatment outcomes
