Sentido de coherencia de los cuidadores y percepción de la salud bucal en niños con discapacidad intelectual

Objetivo: Evaluar el Sentido de Coherencia (SOC) de cuidadores de niños con discapacidad intelectual y su impacto en la percepción sobre la salud bucal de sus hijos. Métodos: Estudio transversal con 30 cuidadores de niños de 6 a 14 años diagnosticados con síndrome de Down, parálisis cerebral, trastorno del espectro autista, hidrocefalia o discapacidad intelectual, atendidos en un centro especializado de Teresina, Brasil. Se aplicaron entrevistas estructuradas y la escala SOC-13 (13–65 puntos), además de un examen clínico infantil para experiencia de caries (índices CPO-D y ceo-d). Los datos fueron analizados mediante estadística descriptiva y regresión de Poisson (p<0,05). Resultados: La edad media fue 10,6±4,1 años; la mayoría eran niños (63,6%). Los cuidadores eran principalmente madres (90%), con ingresos familiares de 1–2 salarios mínimos (53,3%). El SOC medio fue 48±6,8, alto en 53,3%, y se asoció con ingresos familiares (p=0,024). No se observó asociación entre SOC y experiencia de caries. Conclusión: Los cuidadores presentaron SOC elevado, influenciado por la renta, pero no por la experiencia de caries infantil.
