Screen time and its impacts on the mental health of preschool children and adolescents: An integrative review

ABSTRACT: Objective: to identify the impacts caused by the use of screens and media on the mental health of preschool children and adolescents. Methodology: The study was carried out through an integrative review based on recent literature, the research was carried out from October to November 2023, using the research bases PUBMED, VHL, SCOPUS, WEB OF SCIENCE and EMBASE, in which they were Full articles published in the last five years (2018 to 2023) were selected. Results: 1,627 validated articles were found in the databases and 12 articles were selected for the study, where evidence was indeed found that the use of screens causes various mental health problems. Conclusion: Detailed analysis revealed a clear link between screen time and psychosocial symptoms in children and adolescents, including sleep disorders that trigger psychological problems.
