Expansão rápida da maxila no tratamento da síndrome da apneia obstrutiva do sono em crianças e adolescentes: revisão sistemática

Objetivos: O presente estudo teve o objetivo de verificar a influência da expansão rápida da maxila no tratamento da síndrome apneia obstrutiva do sono em crianças (SAOS), bem como a estabilidade dos seus efeitos em longo prazo. Metodologia: Foi realizada uma busca de dados nas bases eletrônicas (Pubmed, Web of Science e Scopus), até abril de 2019. Resultados: De um modo geral, a ERM contribuiu para uma melhora significativa nos sinais e sintomas da SAOS em crianças, mas em alguns casos foi necessária uma abordagem multidisciplinar para a remissão total dos sintomas. Conclusão: o grau de melhora nos sinais e sintomas da SAOS decorrente da ERM parece estar relacionado ao nível do índice de apneia e hipopneia inicial, e esse procedimento apresentou estabilidade em longo prazo, principalmente quando a intervenção é realizada o mais precoce possível e outros fatores obstrutivos não estão presentes.
